MESSINA

Anna Piccione was born on January 17, 1886 in Faro Superiore to Giuseppe and Matai Piccione.

In 1906, Anna set sail from Messina with her to-be husband Giorgio Pagano. They arrived at Ellis Island on December 22, 1906 and headed for Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania to live with Giorgio s cousin Francesco Pulejo. However, on January 16, 1907, Giorgio Pagano died. The next day, Anna buried Giorgio on her 21st birthday.

Several weeks later, on February 7, 1907, Anna married Francesco Pulejo. Francesco, known as Frank, had come from Italy several years earlier. Frank was a laborer and a railroad worker, and Anna ran a small grocery store. They had four children: Francesca (Frances), John, Joseph (died early in childhood), and Joseph.

Frank died in 1936, only about 50 years old. Anna lived to be a great-grandmother and died on April 12, 1968 in Hamilton, Pennsylvania.
