MARIA ANTONIA TORRE PELLEGRINO
By Sara Jane Berman
SALERNO
One hundred yeras ago, Maria Antonia, her sister Annunziata, and their mother Maria Caterina Conforte, made the journey from Sanza to Ellis Island on the Steamer Citta Di Napoli. My Grandmother, Maria Antonia, would tell me how she helped the other sea sick passengers, but never got sick herself.
The family settled in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, and Grandma married Giuseppe Pellegrino, from an area near Sanza. They raised a family of three children.
Grandma always belonged to the Society of Our Lady of the Snow, an organization of Immigrants from Sanza. Maria Antonia was the sweetest, most hard working woman I ever knew.
