NAPOLI
MY DAD LUIGI CICCONE (AKA LOUIE) CAME TO THIS COUNTRY AFTER WWII SEEKING A BETTER LIFE. HE WAS IN THE MERCHANT MARINES SINCE HE WAS 16 (FORCED HIS MOTHER TO SIGN THE PAPERS) SAW ACTION DURING THE WAR AND SURVIVED TO TELL ABOUT IT. HE JUMPED SHIP IN 1948 IN NORFORK ,VA. HIS ONLY SKILL WAS AS A BAKER (BREAD). HE MADE HIS WAY UP TO NY W/ ONLY $10 IN HIS POCKET AND A FEW ENGLISH WORDS. HE HAD A FRIEND IN JAMAICA, NY WHO SOON FOUND WORK FOR HIM AS A BAKER. THIS SAME FRIEND INTRODUCED HIM TO A LOVELY YOUNG WOMAN, ROSE NAPOLITANO.

AFTER HE WAS DEPORTED AND ALLOWED TO COME BACK TO THE USA LEGALLY, HE AND ROSE WERE MARRIED IN 1950. THEY HAD 2 CHILDREN ,MARIE AND FRANK(NAMED FOR LUIGIS' PARENTS OF COURSE)HE WORKED HARD AS A BAKER ,THEN AS A NASSAU COUNTY WORKER.HE WAS A SELF TAUGHT MAN AND LEARNED TO READ AND WRITE ENGLISH. HE WAS A FIRM BELIEVER IN HIGHER EDUCATION.

HE HAD 3 GRANDCHILDREN. THE TWO ELDEST JOSEPH AND MICHAEL SANTORO, (MARIES' SONS) BOTH GRADUATED FORDHAM UNIV... JOSEPH HAS HIS DOCTORATE IN PHYSICS, SOMETHING THAT WAS LOUIES' DREAM, BUT UNFORTUNATELY HE DID NOT LIVE TO SEE. HE PASSED AWAY IN 2002 AFTER A
VERY LONG ILLNESS. ROSE IS NOW 83 AND LIVES NEAR MARIE.
