MICHELANGELO PELLEGRINO and FRANCESCA MARIA PEZZUTI
By Marie Buck
My Grandfather is Michelangelo Pellegrino, born August 21,1892, in Ceccano which is 92 km (58 miles) south of Rome. He moved to Niagara Falls, NY about 1917, but I am not sure if that was from Italy or
somewhere else in the USA.
My Grandmother is Francesca Maria Pezzuti, born May 1, 1899, in Campania. They both came through Ellis Island at different times and did not know each other until they met on a bus. They married in 1921
and made their home in Niagara Falls, NY. They had six children; my mother Anna is second oldest.
I remember I spent every weekend, holiday and vacation at my Nana's house! It was wonderful!! All the beautiful "smells" from the kitchen, canning in the basement, the beautiful gardens, burying of the fig tree
every fall, church every Sunday, going to city market, to the butcher, chatting on street corners .... So many beautiful memories that I cherish dearly!
When my Grandpop passed away people filled the house, along with all the great smells from the kitchen! Home made wines! And stories! You never would have thought it was a sad occasion! Nana passed away
32 years later and that is when the "family" started going their own way and things are just not the same anymore! Even I moved away, but you never forget "home"! I really look forward to Christmas, that's the one time everyone keeps in touch!!
